Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy for Comprehensive Treatment
Counselling and psychotherapy at Harley Row Clinic is relaxed, unrushed and personalised to each patient’s needs. Therapists are impartial: they provide a safe environment for you to speak without fear of judgement. Our counsellors and psychotherapists won’t tell you what to do but will help you find your own solutions. It isn't our job to interfere in a person's life but to help them along their journey.
Counselling and psychotherapy, sometimes called talking therapy, are umbrella terms that cover different types of talking therapies.
There are many benefits to booking a session with a therapist or counsellor. Harley Row Clinic’s counsellors and psychotherapists are trained professionals who can work together with you to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, make sense of your world, and help you manage and resolve emotional distress through exploring your feelings and thoughts, ultimately improving your quality of life in the process.
Therapists can be trained in various methods, therapies or ‘modalities,’ and they may practise in a variety of ways with patients. Harley Row Clinic consists of over 13 clinicians, each brought into the team because of their unique specialities and disciplines. We can help you find the right therapist and the right therapy for you. We have trained professional clinicians who have expertise in a variety of backgrounds:
· Compassionate Inquiry, an integrated therapeutic approach
· Humanistic/Person-centred Psychotherapy
· Psychodynamic Therapy
· Anthroposophic Psychotherapy
· Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
· Play and Creative Arts Therapy
· Trauma-Informed Psychotherapeutic Counselling
· Somatic-based Expressive Therapy
· Interpersonal Neurobiology Informed Counselling
· Polyvagal Informed Counselling
We can make recommendations, and help you find the right therapist, and therapy, tailored to your individual needs. You will get the most effective outcomes from therapy if you are open and honest with your therapist and express how you truly feel.
As relationship dynamics, communication and shared challenges all have a role to play, the Harley Row Clinic team also delivers couple, family and group counselling, a variety of educational workshops, and provides coaching for parents and families of young patients. Having the support of people going through the same experiences as you in a group therapy setting can make a world of difference.
We also offer [link] mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy as a private therapy. We have separate [link] services for children and young people.
Depending on what mental health conditions a person is experiencing, mental health support can take different forms.
You might be referred to our counselling and psychotherapy service as part of a treatment plan you’ve already started with us, for example after receiving an [link] ADHD assessment, or visiting our depression clinic, but you can self-refer by speaking to one of our team.
Counselling and psychotherapy forms part of Harley Row Clinic’s comprehensive approach to treatment. One of the core differences between allopathic, or conventional, medicine and holistic medicine regards the way in which practitioners work with patients and their symptoms.
Allopathic medicine works to alleviate symptoms, whereas comprehensive medicine will use the symptoms as a ‘compass’ to navigate to the root causes, instigate a healing journey and thus achieve an optimised state of well-being. Comprehensive therapy sessions work along these pathways, combining allopathic and functional medicine.
This means that the approaches taken by holistic practitioners are vastly different and more comprehensive. Once all factors of a patient’s life have been considered, a practitioner will work with the patient to encourage and support the attainment of optimal achieved through a variety of techniques depending upon the practitioners’ training and a patient’s unique needs.
Talking therapies fall under the psychological intervention pathway, and we encourage a threefold comprehensive treatment path considering both allopathic and naturopathic treatments alongside psychological intervention and medication if it’s helpful.
Alongside psychological intervention, functional medicine seeks to identify the underlying cause of health issues, instead of just a focus on symptoms. The team at Harley Row Clinic use a range of diagnostic tools and assessments to explore genetic, biochemical, and environmental factors that may all contribute to a patient’s condition.
This unique three-principle method, which has been inspired by various schools of thought and experience, focuses on the whole body, and treating the root cause of a condition, not just the symptoms.
The results of tending to your inner life through counselling or psychotherapy, alongside tending to the physical body through functional medicine practices, can have profound results—leading to greater self-actualisation, wellbeing, and fulfilment.
